2.) Childhood Nickname: "Shannie"
3.) Hometown: This is a tough question - I was born in Stockton, CA but left the state at the age of 8. If hometown means where I graduated from high school, that would be Plano, TX. However, if hometown refers to the place I've lived the longest, I guess Portsmouth, OH is the correct answer - I have been here 12 years which is longer than any other place I have ever lived.
4.) Colleges Attended and Degrees Received:
University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa (BA English), Marshall University (MAT English)
5.) Family Situation: Happily married to Robert L. for 17 years. Two sons: James 16 and Michael 13
6.) Shoe Size: 8 1/2
7.) Favorite Snack: Triscuit crackers with sharp cheddar cheese or cream cheese
8.) Favorite TV Show: Judge Judy - I love the way she speaks her mind.
9.) Favorite Movie: Any movie with Denzel Washington in it.
10.) Favorite Singer or Band: Johnny Clegg and Savuka
11.) What is your favorite thing about SSU? I love my job. I work with great colleagues in the English/Humanities Dept. and I really enjoy meeting new students every term, especially the Honors students.
12.) What is the food that you hate more than any other? Egg plant - as kids we called it egg plaque
13.) What is one thing about yourself that no one would expect? In another life, I dated a biker so I guess I used to be a biker chick. I may have a picture somewhere if you don't believe me.
14.) Where do you buy your gas? Krogers
15.) What is one thing, entertainment wise, that you are almost embarrassed to admit you enjoy? Reading the Oxford English Dictionary - I am absolutely fascinated by words. Words whose meanings have changed over time, words which have interesting histories, pondering these kinds of things entertains me.
16.) What superpower would you love to have? Power Absorption like Rogue so I could try out whatever superpower I happened to run across.
17.) If you were a shoe, which celebrity would you want to wear you? John Hockenberry (he's been in a wheelchair for years)
18.) If you were not an SSU professor, what occupation do you think you would have? Librarian or Bookstore owner
19.) Imagine you, and all the other SSU professors, were stranded in the mountains without food. To ensure your survival, you must eat one of the other professors. Which professor would you eat first and why? Julia Coll because she has traveled all over the world (most recently France) and has eaten some of the best cuisine. Hopefully, that would make her taste good.
20.) What are your future plans and goals? Go back to Africa, get a Ph.D, put two kids through college.
