Miller also spoke about the discipline of science itself, and what its limitations are.

"Science itself is incapable of investigating the action of divine agents. The methodology of science itself doesn't allow you to investigate existence or actions of a supernatural agent," Miller said.

Shoemaker arranged for Miller to speak at Shawnee State.

"The provost asked me if I would oversee some events and put together some things for the year," Shoemaker said.

He described how he arrived at his ideas for the type of events he would like to have in honor of Darwin's scientific contributions.

"I was driving through New Boston and saw a church that on their sign it said 'Reason is the enemy of faith.' And I thought 'That's the exact problem,'" Shoemaker said.

It became a question for Shoemaker of finding a speaker who could address both angles, a professional scientist who also had a deep abiding faith and saw no conflict between the two. He wanted to find someone who saw the falsehood in a statement that would present reason as the enemy of faith.

One of Miller's fellow faculty members at Kansas State University is a former classmate of Shoemaker's who knew Miller and arranged the introduction.

"The gears turned and it came to pass," Shoemaker said.

"Miller said that there is still a continuous history of compatibility of interaction of dialogue between science and faith."

Baloney. Faith contributes nothing to human progress. (Continued…)
