Shawnee State Lady Bears added two more to their losing streak, as they fell to Point Park University Friday, April 10.
In game one, both teams started off slow, but the Lady Bears took control in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, Fuhrmann, who was walked by Heigel, was brought in by Kayla Evans' RBI single to center field to put the Bears on the board. The Lady Bears left two more runners on base, but took the 1-0 lead into the next inning, until Point Park busted the game wide open.
The fourth inning belonged to the Pioneers, as they came out and completely dominated the rest of the game. Point Park's breakout inning started when Lori Harmon's pitch hit Pesanka. Pesanka was brought in by Cain's RBI triple to right center in the next at-bat. With the game tied 1-1, the Pioneers continued their scoring frenzy, bringing in five more runs off of two hits and two errors.
In the top of the fifth inning, Point Park added one more run to their lead when Hughes brought Heigel home with a double down the left field line. Going into the bottom of the fifth, the Pioneers had gained a comfortable 7-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth inning the Bears came out ready to make a comeback, but everything seemed doubtful as Shawnee's first two batters popped out for a quick two outs. Then Kayla Evans hit a home run to reduce the deficit to five runs, but the inning and two-out rally ended as Harmon flew out to right field. This ended the rally and would eventually end the game after the last inning, with Point Park taking the first game 7-2.
Lori Harmon was tagged with the loss as she pitched the entire game allowing seven runs on eight hits, while striking out three batters. Cassie Erlenwein was 2-for-3 in the game for the Bears with a double, while Kayla Evans went 2-4, with a homerun and two RBIs in the contest.
Abbie Heigel got the win, as she pitched the entire game allowing two runs on eight hits with two walks and was able to retire four batters.
