As video games continue evolving, revolving and involving more multiplayer and online content, teamwork has become an essential trait among gamers across the consoles. Some games have made such a development the basis of their storylines (see Army of Two or Left 4 Dead 2) while others have yet to grace the online community.
One game that stands out from its cooperative brothers is the newest sensation to hit the Nintendo Wii, the New Super Mario Bros. or NSMB Wii for short. If teamwork was invented to aide two gamers in achieving a similar goal, Nintendo missed that completely. It created instead a game that leaves you laughing while at the same time pondering a way to physically hurt your so-called friends.
As modern gaming breaks away from most of the traditional elements seen in classic gaming, many fans have demanded to bring back some of the nostalgia from their youth. NSMB Wii brings back many of the fundamentals found in the earlier Mario titles like Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World.
Though the graphics have improved and the levels have new, innovative ideas, it's the same 2D-platforming game you played almost two decades ago. Players race along horizontal and vertical landscapes, dodging enemies and collecting coins to reach the goal at the end. Along the way, power ups (both old and new) are snatched, checkpoints are obtained, and lives are lost. And believe me; you will lose lives, especially when played with other players.
