Shawn E. Bear made a surprise visit to the Jan. 15 Shawnee State University Board of Trustees Meeting, held in the Homer Selby Board Room in the Clark Memorial Library. During the meeting, the Board of Trustees recognized athletes and coaches of the fall athletic teams.

The Shawnee State University Board of Trustees reviewed and endorsed the results of the Shawnee 20/20 strategic planning process during its January meeting, directing SSU President Rita Rice Morris to address elements of the plan in future budget and program planning.

"It is evident the level of thought and campus-wide involvement that went into this strategic plan," Jack McCoy, SSU Board of Trustees Chairperson, said. "It provides a comprehensive framework for future growth. I would like to thank the university community for their hard work and dedication to this process."

During its meeting, the Board of Trustees also honored the students and coaches of the fall athletic teams, including the women's volleyball team which won the American Mideast Conference Championship with a perfect record of 12-0 and advanced to the NAIA National Meet; the women's soccer team which earned post season play and advanced to the American Mideast Conference tournament; the women's cross country team which finished third in the AMC/NAIA Region IX meet and advanced three players to the NAIA National Meet; and the men's cross country team which finished second in the AMC/NAIA regional meet and fourth in the NAIA National Championship Meet.

Individual athletes honored by the Board of Trustees include women's volleyball players Tiffany Dailey, NAIA All-Scholar Athlete and 2nd Team All-American Mideast Conference; Haley Halcomb, All-American Mideast Setter of the Year, 1st Team All-American Mideast Conference, and AMC Honorable Mention; Kim Rosen, All-American Mideast Conference Freshman Team and 3rd Team All-American Mideast Conference; Heather Koehler, 1st Team All-American Mideast Conference and 3rd Team All-American Mideast Conference; Jami Turrill, 2nd Team All-American Mideast Conference; and Megan Wills, 3rd Team All-American Mideast Conference.
